Data Entry Job Scams Target Online Job Boards

A data entry business scam can target you in several ways. There are forms you can fill out at the mall or online that makes you believe you are winning something or getting valuable information when in actual fact you are subscribing to a mailing list. Data entry business scams use lists to get the names of the people they need to begin mailing. Once you are on the mailing list, it is hard to get your name removed.

Data entry opportunity scams use Craigslist, or similar sites, to locate people. They are listed among jobs that are legitimate. They will list a city and possibly a smaller city near there. Once you send them your information, you have placed your name on the list. More than likely that list will be sold several times.

A few things to consider when posting for a job on Craigslist is:

  • Information included in the ad has no city information. A job posting will give the part of town the job is located in. A real employer knows that if a job is across town, you may not want to apply for it. They know that when they do contact you as a candidate, you will want to know. Putting the information in the posting saves time and effort on your part and theirs.
  • No point of contact. When you send in your CV, you want to have someone to follow up with. If they do not want you to know initially what the name of the company is, they may give you a P.O. Box or a generic name to send your resume to. Data entry opportunity scams don’t have that information.
  • When can you start? Data entry opportunity scams want you to start today. They cater to people who really need a job, but most companies know you give notice to your current employer beforehand. They want you to give your current employer notice. There is not a real job waiting for you with scam artists so they are unconcerned about that part.

The position you see on the job board will sound very appealing. It seems most individuals are looking for new opportunities. Data entry job scams will sound perfect for you. They will give you all of the positives a job like that would provide and you will no doubt be excited. You will email it out when you first see the posting to get it looked at first. You will guess that they got your resume first and based on your experience will pick you over anyone else. This type of ad gives false hope to the individual who applies. Once you send your email, you won’t receive a call to offer you an interview, you are instantly added to the mailing lists.
